Houston Relief Trip

November 13, 2017 to November 17, 2017

Where: Houston, Texas

Event Description:
Just before Thanksgiving, the Evoke Houston Hurricane Support Team, traveled to Houston, Texas to help four families rebuild their lives after the destruction caused by Hurricane Harvey.

The team of 20 included colleagues and family from seven different Evoke projects, traveling from five different states. From November 13-17 the team did their part in helping the city of Houston recover from the devastation left behind after Hurricane Harvey. Evoke teamed up with SBP: Disaster Resilience & Recovery, whose mission is to “shrink the time between disaster and recovery.” Not fully knowing what they were getting into, the team pulled up their sleeves, jumped into plastic Tyvek suits and began the rebuilding effort.

Over the course of three days, the team worked on the homes of four families with the goal of getting them back into their homes by December 25th. They gutted interiors with hand tools by tearing up floor boards with crowbars and hammers, removed soaked insulation and discarded a mountain of drywall and debris in order to begin the drying process. They also performed the post-gutting process of full Mold Remediation, which involves scrubbing every inch of exposed wood with wire brushes and spraying to kill months’ worth of mold growth.

Evoke will always strive to do more as a good corporate citizen and encouraging others to engage in their communities but this team certainly raised the bar in support of those values.
